Samsara is a performative work that aims to highlight the nuances of care within the hospice setting through the process of Papermaking. This work was inspired by positive regression and play as a fundamental aspect of being. The idea is interpreted through a performance centred on the cyclical nature of being and transforming discarded hospice papers into a poignant metaphor for renewal, continuity and second chances.
The work draws parallels between the continuous flow of life, death, and rebirth through the tedious and transformative action of tearing and remaking paper.
Caretakers often spread themselves thin, looking after people while carrying the heavy burdens of their tasks, putting others before themselves in the process.
Samsara honours the compassionate care provided by palliative workers at Assisi Hospice, seeking to highlight the laborious tasks of caretakers and what they give to look after everyone. Often turning to each other for support, displaying care and comfort as they continue to carry out their daily routines.
